Mental State of the Narrator of the Tell-Tale Heart and Montressor

The narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart shows his insanity passim the spotless allegory. From the very first line of the story we add see that the sanity of the narrator is questionable. He says, True! skittishvery, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am: and why will you say that I am mad? His sanity is questioned from t he very beginning. Then he goes on to suck up the old mans vulture eye that eventually begins him to murder. This apparently is the hardly thing that drives him to do so. He sits up for eight straight person nights and watches the old man sleep until one night the man un accommodateeds his eyes and the pale blue eye is exposed. This is when the narrator is drive to kill him.

He expresses his belief when he declares, It was wide unmannerlywide, wide open-- and I grew furious as I gazed upon it. I saw it with perfect distinctnessall a decrepit blue, with a hideous veil over it that chilled the very warmheartedness in my bones. When he sees the eye, the narra! tor feels no regret or compassion for killing this innocent man. He claims it was indeed the shoots fault. It was the vulture eye that pressured him to commit this unlawful act not hatred or hostility. It quickly becomes evident that the narrators trance down to plead sane is exactly the opposite in reality.
